Newcastle's centre-backs are well suited to Jaissle's 4-2-3-1 system.

Jaissle deployed Botman and Thiaw in a back four against Bournemouth, drawing 2-2. With Dan Burn unavailable, the pairing has shown it can operate in his high defensive line.

Thiaw and Botman held their shape against Bournemouth only because they faced Osula's absence and Joelinton's absence meant Newcastle sat deeper than Jaissle intends; when those midfielders return, the centre-backs will be exposed.
