Manchester United's midfield depth is stretched with Baleba and Ugarte sidelined.
Baleba is out until 17 September with an ankle injury, while Ugarte faces a long absence with a cruciate ligament tear. Carrick started Mainoo and Tielemans against Everton, with only Andrey Santos as a fit backup midfielder on the bench.

United paid real wages for both Baleba and Ugarte; without them fit, that capital is dead money while Carrick relies on academy kids and a 30-year-old loan to cover midfield.
